48 Hours in Mallorca: The Perfect Weekend Itinerary for Friends & Groups
A realistic two-day Mallorca itinerary that balances Palma, the Tramuntana mountains, good food and enough pool time to make the weekend actually feel like a holiday.
Yes, a Weekend in Mallorca Is Worth It — If You Don't Try to See Everything
Mallorca looks compact on a map, but the mistake most people make on a short break is trying to squeeze Palma, the mountains, three beaches and five villages into 48 hours.
For a genuinely good Mallorca weekend, choose a base close to Palma, spend one half-day exploring the Serra de Tramuntana, give yourself one proper Palma session, and protect a large block of time for the pool, lunch and doing very little.
This itinerary is designed for friends, families and groups of around 6–12 people, especially if you are flying in on Friday and leaving on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Our rule: on a two-night trip, every extra hour spent driving or changing plans costs more than it does on a week-long holiday. Keep the geography tight.

Arrive, Unpack and Do Almost Nothing
The first evening is not the time to start sightseeing. If you have flown in for just 48 hours, the best thing you can do is get everyone together, put the bags down and immediately start the holiday.
Finca Hermosa is in Pòrtol, around 20 minutes from Palma, so it works particularly well for a short Mallorca break where you do not want to lose half a day reaching a remote corner of the island. Finca Hermosa sleeps up to 12 people across six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Our ideal Friday
- Arrange airport transfers or car hire before you fly.
- Have food and drinks waiting at the house rather than doing a supermarket run after landing.
- Spend the late afternoon around the pool.
- Open the first bottle of Mallorcan wine before sunset.
- Eat at the finca rather than organising 12 people for a restaurant on night one.
For groups, a private chef or relaxed pizza night is one of the easiest ways to make the first evening feel special without turning it into logistics. Finca Hermosa already works with private catering providers, from full private dining to pizza nights.
Valldemossa First. Deià If You Still Want More.
For a first short trip to Mallorca, we would choose one mountain route rather than attempting the entire west coast.
Leave after breakfast and make Valldemossa your first stop. The village sits in the Serra de Tramuntana and is only 17km from Palma. Its old stone streets, the Royal Charterhouse and mountain setting make it one of the easiest places to get a sense of inland Mallorca without committing the entire day.
If everyone is enjoying the road trip, continue towards Deià. The village sits between the mountains and sea and is known for its long association with artists and writers.
If the group would rather be back in the pool, turn around after Valldemossa. On a 48-hour trip, that is not “missing out”; it is usually the better decision.
Summer tip: in July and August, go early. Parking and traffic build as the morning goes on, and the mountain roads are much more enjoyable before the busiest part of the day.
Protect the Afternoon for the Finca
This is the part of a Mallorca weekend that people often accidentally schedule away.
Come back, swim, sleep, read, put music on, eat something simple and let everyone disappear into different corners of the house for a while.
A large private property makes a two-night trip work because the accommodation itself becomes part of the holiday. At Finca Hermosa the pool, courtyard, Mediterranean gardens and roof terrace give a group different places to spend the afternoon without everyone needing to agree on the same activity.
Use Saturday Night for Palma
One of the big advantages of staying close to Palma is that a countryside villa and a city night do not have to be competing choices.
Book a table in or around Palma Old Town, leave the cars at the finca if everyone intends to drink, and arrange taxis or a private transfer in both directions.
For a group of 8–12, pre-booking transport is much easier than hoping several taxis appear at exactly the same time at the end of the night.
Do not over-plan the evening. Dinner, a walk through the old streets and one or two bars is enough. The goal is to come home feeling like you have had a proper Palma night, not to complete a checklist.
Slow Breakfast, Then Palma Old Town
After Saturday night, Sunday should start slowly. Have breakfast at the finca, swim if you have time, then head into Palma for the final part of the weekend.
Walk around the Cathedral and Parc de la Mar, continue through the Old Town, stop for coffee, browse the smaller streets and make lunch the final event of the trip.
Important Sunday detail: Mallorca Cathedral is closed to tourist visits on Sundays. You can still enjoy the building and waterfront from outside, but if going inside La Seu is important to you, move the Cathedral visit to Saturday morning. The Cathedral's official timetable currently lists Sunday as closed for tourist visits.
If your flight is late enough, keep a small bag in the car and finish with a final waterfront walk before heading to the airport.
Three Easy Swaps If the Classic Itinerary Is Not Your Group
The best Mallorca weekend itinerary depends on whether your group wants sightseeing, beach time or almost no agenda at all.
Swap 1: Sóller Instead of Deià
If you want a fuller day out, continue to Sóller rather than rushing several tiny stops. Sóller sits in the Tramuntana's “golden valley”; the historic wooden train from Palma and tram to Port de Sóller are part of its appeal.
Official Sóller guide →Swap 2: Make Saturday a Pool Day
If the trip is for a birthday, reunion or friends' weekend, you may genuinely have more fun staying at the house. Organise lunch, music, a private chef and a long afternoon around the pool.
See private dining options →Swap 3: Palma First, Mountains Sunday
If seeing inside La Seu matters, do Palma on Saturday while tourist visits are open, then take a short mountain drive on Sunday before your flight. Always check live opening hours before planning around a specific attraction.

How to Make 48 Hours in Mallorca Work for a Group
For a larger group, two sensible cars or a pre-booked minibus/private transfer is usually easier. The important thing is reducing the number of people who need to coordinate every move.
A table for 10–12 is much harder to improvise than a table for two. Book your main dinner before arrival and leave the rest of the weekend loose.
In peak summer, leaving after a leisurely 11am breakfast can mean spending the nicest part of the day looking for parking. Go earlier, then come home for the hottest hours.
For 48 hours, choose one side of Mallorca. Palma + the western Tramuntana works particularly well from a base near Palma.
Cold drinks, breakfast and easy lunch food waiting at check-in can save the whole group an hour of supermarket logistics on a two-night trip.
The best two-night weekends usually contain fewer activities than people expect. If the villa has a pool, gardens and good dining spaces, use them.
Why Finca Hermosa Works Particularly Well for a Two-Night Mallorca Trip
Large Mallorca villas can be difficult to book for only a weekend in July and August because many properties require five- or seven-night stays.
Finca Hermosa releases selected two-night gaps during the summer season, giving groups of up to 12 guests the chance to book the whole six-bedroom estate for a genuine weekend stay.
The finca is close enough to Palma for dinner or sightseeing, but private enough that you can spend the majority of the weekend at the property and still feel you have had a proper Mallorca holiday.
Frequently Asked Questions About Spending 48 Hours in Mallorca
Is 2 days enough for Mallorca?
Two days is enough for a very enjoyable Mallorca break if you do not try to tour the whole island. Base yourself near Palma, choose one mountain or coastal excursion, spend time in Palma and leave room to enjoy where you are staying.
What should I do on a weekend in Mallorca?
For a first weekend, a strong combination is Palma Old Town, a morning in Valldemossa or Deià, a long lunch or dinner, and plenty of unplanned time at your hotel or villa.
Where is the best place to stay for a short Mallorca weekend?
For a short trip, staying close to Palma is convenient because it reduces transfer time and gives you easy access to the city while keeping the Serra de Tramuntana within reach. Finca Hermosa is in Pòrtol, approximately 20 minutes from Palma.
Do I need a car for 48 hours in Mallorca?
You can enjoy Palma without a car, but a car is useful if you want to visit Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller or beaches outside the city. Larger groups may prefer pre-booked transfers or a driver for at least part of the weekend.
Can you rent a Mallorca villa for only 2 nights?
Yes, but short stays can be difficult to find in peak season. Finca Hermosa offers selected two-night summer stays for groups of up to 12 when suitable gaps occur between longer bookings.
Is Palma worth visiting on a short Mallorca trip?
Yes. Palma combines historic streets, the waterfront, restaurants, shopping and major sights such as La Seu, so it is one of the easiest places to include without losing a whole day to travel.
